Today I saw the new Disney film, “The Odd Life of Timothy Green,” with one of the children that I babysit. She is 10. I found this movie extremely sad, and moving. I had expected a light comedy. It centers around an infertile couple who are magically given a boy to raise, and how they and others around them react to this development. Much of the film shows the couple crying over not being able to have a child of their own. It’s heartbreaking. Some childless couples will find that they can relate to the characters, but others will probably find it difficult to watch. By the way, the child I was with didn’t think it was as sad as I did. She knows nothing of my fertility issues. Her mother had similar issues however, and I doubt she would like this film. The ending is semi-happy, and made me cry with bittersweet sadness for this sweet, wonderful couple.
